1st Nationwide SME Caravan
Held in Bukidnon
The first nationwide Small & Medium Enterprise (SME) Caravan was held in Valencia City, province of Bukidnon last April 27-29, 2011 at Hotel Valencia. The event was participated by hundreds of Micro, Small,,nd Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and representatives from the academe, local government units, national government agencies, and non-government organizations in the province.
The activity aimed to increase the MSMEs awareness on business development services provided by the government and private sectors. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Head Office, through the Bureau of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development (BMSMED) brought together national government and private sector institutions from Manila whose programs were designed to promote entrepreneurship, improve access to credit and markets, and increase productivity and efficiency of MSMEs.
Cong. Teddy A. Casiño, Chair of the House Committee on Small Business & Entrepreneurship Development was the keynote speaker during the opening ceremony. He emphasized the important role of MSMEs in the economic development of the country.
Mayor Leandro Jose H. Catarata, the City Mayor of Valencia City and Mr. Romeo M. Cardoza, the representative of Gov. Alex P. Calingasan expressed their heartfelt thanks to the Department of Trade and Industry for considering Bukidnon as the first stop of the caravan.
Dir. Alicia V. Euseña, the Regional Director of DTI-X, expressed the commitment of the department in helping the MSMEs develop and improve their respective businesses in her opening remarks. Dir. Euseña vowed to support other related activities requested by the participants in one of the training sessions that she attended.
Aside from the series of seminars, the Bureau of Export Trade Promotion (BETP), the Bureau of Customs (BOC), and Bureau of International Trade Relations (BITR) conducted also an info session on Doing Business in Free Trade Areas (DBFTA) during the third and last day of the caravan. Existing exporters, would-be exporters, chamber of commerce members, teachers, students, and industry associations participated the said activity.
The next stops of the nationwide caravan will be in the provinces of Sorsogon, Abra, Oriental Mondoro, Antique, Surigao del Norte, Zambales, Cagayan, Northern Samar, Davao Oriental, Zamboanga del Norte, Negros Oriental, Quezon, Pangasinan, and Saranggani. (Junar B. Merla)

Dir. Euseña Graces the Soft-Opening
of BIZNIS Center-Valencia
Dir. Alicia V. Euseña, the Regional Director of the Department of Trade and Industry-X was the special guest during the soft-opening of the Business Information Zone and New Investments Support (BIZNIS) Center of the City of Valencia last April 27,2011.
The establishment of the BIZNIS Center was an ffshoot of City Ordinance No. 22-2010, enacted and approved by Sangguniang Panlungsod of the City of Valencia last November of 2010.
City Ordinance No. 22-2010 created the City of Valencia Investment Incentive Boardand grants incentives to investors and new investments in the City of Valencia. Through this ordinance also, the Business Information Zone and New Investments Support (BIZNIS) Center was established and the tax incentive holiday under the Local Government Code was implemented.
The BIZNIS Center is aimed to become a central source of business-related information and services of the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Aside from providing investment services and business consultancies, the Center is also expected to prepare and implement a marketing program of the city, lobby’s for policy advocacy and sustains a network linkage among government agencies, the private sector, and other organizations.
Dir. Euseña, in her inspirational talk, encouraged the city officials to designate a competent manager and staffs to manage the Center. She emphasized that the Center requires people who can effectively promote the City of Valencia and attract more investors to invest in the city.
Mayor Leandro Jose H. Catarata, in his message, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the people behind the conceptualization of the establishment of the Center and the passage of City Ordinance No. 22-2010. He also acknowledged the support of DTI and Sangguniang Panlungsod in various programs and projects implemented in the City of Valencia.
Meanwhile, Mr. Marven C. Selecios, the City Acting Administrator of the City of Valencia presented the rationale of the establishment of the Center. He initiated the signing of the covenant among the agencies and offices which manifested their support for the full operation of the Center.
Valencia City Chamber, Market Vendors Association of Valencia, Inc., Sangguniang Panlungsod Office, City Treasurer’s Office, Permit & Licensing Office, Assessor’s Office, Social Security System (SSS) Office, Philhealth Office, and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) were among of the offices that pledged their support during the soft-opening of the BIZNIS Center.
